Power Soccer is the Most Exciting and Dynamic Sport for Athletes with Disabilities
The Game of Power Soccer
Power soccer is the most exciting and dynamic sport for athletes with disabilities using power wheelchairs. It is an extremely competitive sport that has been ongoing for more than 20 years, and is exploding locally, nationally and internationally.
This action-packed team sport combines the skill of the athlete with the speed and power of the wheelchair itself.
The game is played in a gymnasium using the boundaries of a regulation basketball court. Two teams of four attack, defend, and maneuver an oversized soccer ball using foot guards attached to the wheelchairs, in an attempt to score points on a goal.
Chris Finn in the Power Soccer Community
As the Head Coach of the US National Power Soccer Team, I took my players from being ranked near last place to finishing as Champions in Tokyo, Japan at the first-ever Powerchair Football World Cup competition in 2007. I then coached the team in 2011 to make soccer history by being the first US soccer team of any kind (and the third in the world) to repeat as World Cup Championship in Paris, France.
